Understanding the different parts of the Cambridge First B2 and Advanced C1 exams

Cambridge English exams are divided into four main parts, each assessing a specific language skill:

1. Reading & Use of English
   This section combines reading comprehension with grammar and vocabulary exercises. It tests your ability to read quickly and effectively, identify key information and understand the overall or implied meaning of various texts.
2. Writing
   You must write two texts. Depending on the level, this may include letters, reports, reviews or proposals. The aim is to demonstrate your ability to structure your ideas, use an appropriate style and write accurately.
3. Listening
   This part of the test assesses your ability to understand spoken English in different accents, registers and situations (dialogues, interviews, presentations, etc.). It requires concentration and quick analysis.
4. Speaking
   Conducted in pairs with another candidate, this part includes exercises in self-introduction, interaction, image description and discussion. You will be assessed on your fluency, grammatical accuracy and ability to interact naturally.

Each section is marked, then the scores are combined to give an overall result that corresponds to a CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level.
