Registration / Evaluation

I am not currently in Geneva, how do I register for a course?

Nous pouvons évaluer votre niveau à distance (test écrit en ligne / test oral par téléphone ou Zoom) et effectuer les démarches administratives liées à l’inscription par e-mail.

I have already taken an online placement test and I know my level, do I need to take your assessment?

The assessment interview allows you to define your level but also to determine your precise needs and specific objectives. This enables us to advise you on the most suitable course for you. The assessment is therefore necessary.

When can I join an intensive course?

Every Monday, except for beginner level courses. You can check the next dates on the course page. la page des cours

I would like to enrol my children in an intensive course, is this possible?

Our intensive courses are designed for adults. The minimum age for participation is 16 years. However, we can also offer individual courses for young people under 16 years of age.

Are the announced dates (evening courses / exam preparation courses / beginner's intensive course) guaranteed?

We open a course as soon as 4 participants are registered. It is possible that the course may be postponed to a later date if there are not 4 confirmed enrolments.

What is the minimum age required to join your course?

16 years old for group courses. No minimum age for individual courses.

Can I take a trial course before I register?

You can do a free trial lesson in our intensive courses. You can also try out a private lesson, but you will have to pay for it.

My employer will finance my training. What are the specific steps to be taken?

Method / Programme

What is the content/programme of the intensive courses?

Intensive courses focus on communication and work on language functions (action-oriented approach). The content is constantly adapted to the group's progress, while following a level syllabus.

What is the content/programme of the evening courses?

Les cours du soir sont axés sur la communication et plus particulièrement sur l’approche actionnelle (situations du quotidien). Le contenu est adapté en permanence aux progrès du groupe tout en suivant un syllabus de niveau. Des devoirs et des ressources en ligne sont fournis pour travailler l’écrit.

How long do I need to take an intensive/individual/evening course to pass a level?

On average, the following durations are required to acquire a level: 3 months in an intensive course, 80 hours in individual classes, 2 sessions of 15 weeks in evening classes. The progress of each student will depend on several factors: mother-tongue, attendance, homework, etc.

Annual Training Cheque (CAF)

How to benefit from a CAF?

Can I start my course without having received my CAF?

Yes - however, if you do not receive it, you will have to pay for your course in full.

Can I use my spouse's CAF?

No. The CAF is nominative.

Can more than one CAF be used for a language course?

You can only use one CAF per year for language courses. The accumulation of CAFs over a year is only valid for diploma courses.

EXAMS / CERTIFICATES

What are the criteria for taking an exam preparation course?

You must have the required level: we assess your language level before you register. The preparation course focuses on the techniques required for the exam. 

Je voudrais passer le test fide mais je n’ai pas encore le niveau requis. Proposez-vous des cours orientés fide de préparation aux examens?

Le test fide se base sur des situations concrètes de la vie quotidienne en Suisse. Nos cours intensifs ont le même objectif et vous permettent d’améliorer votre niveau de façon générale, sur des thématiques proches de celles de l’évaluation. Vous pouvez également vous préparer de façon plus spécifique à l’évaluation avec quelques heures de cours privés.

I need a level certificate for my application to the Permit Authorities (OCP). What do I need to do?

Vous devrez passer le test fide. Les dates de nos prochaines sessions se trouvent here.

Note importante : les résultats de test évaluation vous seront envoyés à domicile au maximum 4 semaines après l’examen fide.

Will I receive a certificate at the end of my course?

Yes, you will receive a certificate stating the level achieved and the dates of your course at the end of your course.

Accommodation and activities

Do you offer accommodation solutions?

Yes, with a host family or with our partner service providers.

Do you offer activities in addition to the courses?

The school organises occasional events (theatre outings, ...) but does not offer activities in addition to the lessons. However, we can recommend visits to interesting cultural sites or advise you on points of interest to visit, in partnership with the tourist office.

What language do the host families speak?

The families all speak French. Some may speak other languages but we cannot guarantee this.

Visas

Can I apply for a student visa to study English courses in Geneva?

English is not an official language in Geneva. For this reason, the visa will most likely be refused.

I haven't heard anything about my visa, can the school help me?

We do not have access to visa information. We advise you to check with the Cantonal Office for Migration and Population.
